In the recent issue of Craft Magazine, I read an article about Spyn project. The idea was that in addition to the finished knitted product, there was the knitter’s associated experiences with the project, or the notion that every stitch tells a story. Knitting lends itself very easily to the storytelling tradition, as understood in such idioms as “spinning a yarn”.

The Spyn project is trying to use technology to store those associated memories with a knitting project, such as a photo of the park you knitted the sleeve in, or a video of your thoughts while you knitted the collar, or the locations of where you were when you knitted the hood. In addition to the knitted product, one could also receive a journal of the knitter’s experiences.

This interest me, for in my own knitting, there are thoughts, stories and images I wish to also give with my knitted tokens.
